The History of Law Coffee
Founded by Walter Law in 1909, the Company began roasting coffee in the barn at Walter's home in Dunellen, New Jersey. Traveling house to house in a horse drawn wagon to sell his coffee, Walter used his favorite marketing tool, a pill crusher, to crush the beans and release the coffee aroma under the nose of his potential customers - truly freshly ground.
The Company branched into the wholesale business of selling coffee to markets and restaurants in New Jersey. Walter's son, Warren, began to help his father roast and pack the coffee. The company moved into Newark and Warren, returning from military service, took on the responsibilities of running the family business.
Warren grew the business, moved it to its current address and established the firm as one of New Jersey's finest, independently owned and operated coffee companies. Warren's son, Robert and son-in-law, David Mendez, joined the business and expanded its area of distribution to include New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and Texas.
The Company continued to add additional properties and personnel to expand its manufacturing and distribution capacities.
David's son, David W Mendez, joined the business in 2004 and has recently assumed the position of Director of Sales, continuing the family principles of quality and integrity into the company's second century of existence.
